Liz Sweibel
Statement | January 2018

My work is an exploration of liminal spaces, points of contact, and unseen forces:  wind, history, values, math, gravity, protein, emotion, memory.  I build it using particular yet ordinary materials and gestures.  The process is low-tech, immediate, and improvisational, and primarily takes form as spare, abstract sculpture, installation, and drawing.

I traveled to Japan in the summer of 2017, where these portraits of me were taken.  The impact of the trip has been enormous, and continues to unfold.
